Believe in Yourself

Each and every morning you must be
able to look in the mirror and like the person who is looking back at you. The
most successful people in life are those who believe in themselves. A friend of
mine once said to me: “You will never be happy unless you are happy with
yourself”. Stop looking outside yourself and start looking within. The concept
sounds easy, but most of us are filled with self doubt. So, where do we start
and how can we become more confident about our own abilities?
1.
Until you build up your confidence – Fake It. – It takes time to build self confidence. Start
by dressing better, walking straighter, speaking louder and looking at people
in the eye. When you act more confident and hold yourself out as someone who
believes in themselves you will find that more people will believe in you. Soon
you will find it’s no longer an act. Have you ever been afraid when you were
doing something and feel like you were dying inside only to have someone tell
you that you looked confident and not the least bit nervous? Other people are
not aware of our own insecurities.
2.
Strength and Weaknesses. – Write down a list
of your strengths and weaknesses. While you want to work on your weaknesses you
need to focus and build on your strengths. Start by keeping track of your
achievements and think about how you could have achieved even more. Every
achievement is important large and small. Focusing on your positives will build
your self esteem and in the long run will end up making it much easier to deal
with the tougher problems in life.
3.
Keep it positive – Think of all the good
things that have happened in your life. Too often we only look at our problems
or the negative things in life. You have to push out the negative thoughts and
focus on the positive. Surround yourself with a positive environment. Choose to
be with people who are positive in nature and who are supportive of you. Find
positive quotes, music, or pictures that have meaning to you and keep them in places
where you can see them.
4.
Continue your education – You may be finished
with formal schooling, but you should never stop learning! Take courses in
subjects that you enjoy. Attend seminars on issues that interest you. The more
you learn the better you will feel about yourself. Once again focus on your
strengths. If you love nature and have some knowledge about the environment
maybe its time to enhance your knowledge in growing vegetables or learning
about forestry. It really doesn’t matter what the topic is, but it is important
that you have fun and expand you knowledge base.
